Rotpunkt: Bibliographie | Alex Megos climbs his hardest project yet

16 nov 2020

Alex Megos never met a route he couldn’t climb in short order…that was until he encountered Bibliographie, an undone sport line at the French super-crag, Céüse. In 2017, Megos first tried the route that would become his three-year project. On the path to the send he encountered doubts and injuries and qualified for the Olympics. It wasn’t until COVID turned the world upside down that he was able to return to Céüse and close the books on one of the hardest routes ever climbed.

  • A great film about a great route. Whenever i used to try hard routes and people shouted encouragment at me it just made me fall of laughing. I hope alex likes the shouting.

  • This is incredible. Good luck from Czech (Adams:-) republic. Alex is so big man, very hard working. No one, except the top climber, can imagine such hard physical and mental work and renunciation. Climbing is the most difficult sport in the world. Howhg. And we are witnessing the revolutionary culmination of the history of this sport. Of the many great and elite climbers I think of: Albert, Gulich, Gill, Huber, Yaniro, Hill, Šmíd, Le Menestrel, Smith, Patissier, Destivelle, Godoffe, Edlinger, Andrada, Arnold, Honnold, Charma, Patxi, Medox and Ondra. The last stars stand on the shoulders of many famous and nameless people who have contributed, each with their work to share what we call today's sport climbing.

  • Too bad when finally Megos sends the route, no one is there, on the wall, to film him. The only footage is taken, most likely, with a phone, from the ground. Patagonia needs to do better. A project like this deserves a cameraman, or two, on the wall. Great achievement, but poor footage.

    • @Jennifer Sheedy Actually physics are all for being short. Look at: Ramonet, Angy Eiter, Jain Kim, Stefano Ghisolfi, Daniel Woods, Nalle etc.. The best climbers in the world are usually short. There are of course exceptions to the rule but not by far. AO and Jan are considered tall in the climbing community but actually there aren't. I'm 6'5" (1,95m) and have a photo with Adam an he looks like a younger brother next to me. I'm considered as really tall (but only for a climber). Looking at the contemporary average height for the NBA all these climbers are really short.

    inkwhirinkwhir7 giorni fa
    • @inkwhir I definitely agree with you on the worthiness of the moment and I also love any video by Ondra but I'm not so sure about the professional cinematic format. I'm torn between wanting to see every minuscule part of that route in full closeup, which I never could otherwise, while at the same time I'm mistrusting the commercialization of climbing. I know my position is not rock solid but maybe you see my point.

      M SM S6 giorni fa
    • @M S there's a middle point between this video production and the orchestra you're taking about, and I think Adam Ondra found that sweet spot. It's incredible the difference that a proper camera crew makes and for such an important achievement like a 9c, it's probably well worth it. IMHO

      inkwhirinkwhir6 giorni fa
    • Why certainly! Why not an orchestra, a dance team and a stadium announcer to ensure the full aesthetic pleasure of the demanding (common) spectator? Let's turn the crags into a Hollywood set and get the best directors in the world to twist and bend the plot to produce the right dramatic effect. Jeez.
